For the less-seasoned,
LGBT = Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
And to be fully honest, I think the above acronym applies to everyone who lives between those categories. Because in the end, we never fully fit in to any box, no matter how subversive it may be ;) And those with prejudice will harass us, or try to scare us out of our jobs, children, and love no matter how straight we are or act.
Now for the politics. Some time ago, the Democratic candidates spoke at a forum devoted entirely to issues affecting the LGBT community. I had a link to that forum in an earlier post, but it might have been overridden. Anyway, here for joy's sake, is the history in replay -
