Nancy Polikoff is the law professor and author of Beyond (Straight and Gay) Marriage: Valuing All Familes Under the Law. She has a blog (which I follow, scroll down) which talks about these issues as they relate to current events. Nancy's cause is to go beyond the struggle for legal recognition of married gays towards a legal recognition of all types of family constellations, including unmarried parents, unmarried couples, people raising aging parents, grandparents and aunts raising nephews and nieces, single parents whether gay or straight....you get the idea. Essentially all family forms regardless of whether there is a married couple (or even any couple) in the picture. Because you shouldn't have to get married to get needed support for your family.
She does support legalized marriage equality as a matter of equality under the law. Here, she writes her views on the current Prop 8 trail.
